28 May 2009 - Koffice 2.0 Released

After 3 years of work Koffice 2.0 has been released

Koffice Koffice - a free open source office suite

KOffice 2 has finally been released to the public. Although it is has been marked as a final release it has been warned this is not really designed for end users. Which is a bit of a strange statement to make. Although with the mistakes of the KDE 4 release the warnings can be understood, however shouldn't it really be an alpaha release? In fact they even state it does not have all the features of the KOffice 1.6 release.

That being said there are some noteworthy features with this release.

Koffice is comprised of various components:

  • KWord - Word processor
  • KSpread - Spreadsheet calculator
  • KPresenter - Presentation manager
  • KPlato - Project management software
  • Karbon - Vector graphics editor
  • Krita - Raster graphics editor

These should be pretty much self explanatory. Krita can be seen as an alternative to The GIMP whilst Karbon is similar to Inkscape. Although both of these are not currently as mature as The GIMP and Inkscape.

KOffice currently has version for various Linux distributions but should have Windows and Mac OS X versions to follow.
