AbiWord - AbiWord free word processor
AbiWord is a free no nonsense stand alone word processor similar to Microsoft's Word and the free OpenOffice Writer. AbiWord is capable of reading and writing Microsoft Word files as well as OpenOffice Writer files.
Because AbiWord is just a word processor as opposed to a full blown office suite, it has the advantage of being quite small and fast. This in turn makes it fast to download.
Just because AbiWord is small does not mean it is lacking on features. It has all the features you would expect to find in a typical word processor. SVG support is now fully supported. Also recently introduced is the ability to collaborate on a document. When collaborating on a document the text which is being edited by another user is coloured. This feature is combined with another.
So if you are looking for a fast and easy to use word processor then this is worth considering.

The NeoOffice team arn't the only people who have been busy this week. AbiSource have announced the release of AbiWord 2.8.0, the acclaimed simple to use word processor.
AbiWord 2.8.0 improves on the collaboration support and introduces highlighted text when a document is being edited by different users. Also improved is the SVG support within documents. SVG graphics imported will look much better on screen as well as when printed. And to pick up on another improvement is the Open Document format support. The Open Document Format is important to the future of documents by allowing users to pick and choose which program they would like to use to edit and view their documents. Whereas proprietry formats restrict where you can load your documents.
